After graduating from the University of Arizona, I altered my career plan and began a creative career as a jewelry designer and artist. I had the wonderful experience of owning a small gallery in one of my favorite places, Southern Arizona. Since then, I've exhibited my work across the country through shows and fairs, in private shops, as well as through the Internet. I ventured into all kinds of media and experimented with color, dimension and materials. I'm inspired by the different animals and wildlife I've gotten to know through my family's many moves throughout the country. I've also done personalized commissioned pieces, including custom painted furniture and murals in children's rooms. In my one of a kind artwork, you'll generally find metal, clay, paper, glass, or fabric, along with a variety of color mediums.
Over the past two decades I've created my own unique style of "3D" modern folk art. These are fabricated box structures of clear acrylic sheet and wood. After forming the base, I paint on all surfaces for depth and whimsy. These pieces are inspired by a deep fondness for animals and the children's book illustrators of the 60's and 70's.
Now living in the Houston area, I'm working on a variety of themes using many different materials. Whether it's rusted found objects incorporated into whimsical contemporary themes, or architectural trim to highlight a colorful fun piece, I enjoy blending the old with the new and creating upbeat original pieces of art. Each piece becomes a one of a kind collectible, often containing a bit of human and organic history while adding interest to a space.
